Where the Smart Energy Systems concept was born. The lab co-developed the framework with Aalborg in 2011 and still co-supervises PhDs, publishes jointly and runs Erasmus+ exchange with the group.

The laboratory joins projects as the partner that builds the models and produces the evidence: energy system scenarios, simulation, spatial analysis and experimental work. Four ways this usually starts are set out here. If your question fits none of them, write to us anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right group for it.
Bring us in at proposal stage and we write the modelling work package: scenario design, system optimisation, impact quantification, and the deliverables that follow. We have run this role from partner to coordinator.
A defined technical question answered against a deadline: combustion or process simulation, feasibility of a fuel switch, energy audit of a plant, or sizing of a storage and generation portfolio. Contracted directly through the faculty.
For cities, utilities and agencies: heat demand mapping, district heating and cooling network design, energy community and storage assessment, and decarbonisation roadmaps that hold up in a formal planning document.
Co-supervised doctoral work, staff and student mobility, joint publications, and shared use of our models and computational tools. Suitable for bilateral programmes and for groups wanting to build modelling capacity.
